Scott A. O'Connor, Director

MAC-PRODUCTS, INC. was founded in November of 1995 under the name Phoenix Engineering Services.  In May of 1997 it changed its name to MAC-PRODUCTS, INC.  Originally staffed by three former members of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI)  with the concept of providing the building materials industry with a quality consulting service  that would perform forensic failure investigations, product development and project management work specific to the building materials industry.   Director Scott A. O’Connor holds an industrial engineering degree from Northern Illinois University and has an associates degree in marketing and management from Kishwaukee College.  In addition he has taken post graduate classes in related fields and has participated in numerous industry related training programs over the past 25 years.  He also hold a current contractors license for Concrete Placement, in the state of Florida.  Mr. O’Connor has taught contractor seminars on subjects ranging from:  Surface Preparation of Cementitious Substrates Prior to Repair or Coatings to Proper Diagnosis of Failed Coating Systems and Forensic Identification Methods and also:  “How to Conduct a Site Condition Survey”, Moisture Vapor Transmission Through Slab on Grade and How It Effects Coatings, How to Identify Failure Mechanisms in Cementitious and Synthetic Stucco Systems and other related topics.   In addition to seminars, Mr. O’Connor has authored numerous articles in international trade publications including: American Concrete Institute (ACI), Journal of Protective Coatings and Linings (JPCL) Concrete International.  After working to discover the root cause of product failures in the building materials marketplace, we often were asked to provide information on what products would perform adequately in a given environment.  Through this process we came to learn that “holes” existed in the marketplace for specific “niche” products that would perform under certain conditions.  After doing the research we realized that a business opportunity was at hand and MAC-PRODUCTS was born.  Our first product was MACBRIC - 200™ A flexible, fiber - reinforced, cementitious resurfacing material designed to provide highway bridge decks with an overlay that could waterproof, bridge cracks, prevent salt (chloride ion) intrusion, provide non-slip properties, not add any significant weight to the structure and be able to “return-to-traffic” in 24 hours or less.  No product on the market was capable of providing all these features and at the same time be priced at or below most competitive systems.  The name “M A C B R I C” came from Modified Acrylic Cementitious,  Bridge Resurfacing, In Concrete.  Since many of our early products were based on “modified acrylic cementitious” materials, the name MAC– stuck for our company.  The next truly unique product after MACBRIC-200 to be introduced, was MAC-DENSIFIER-100™ MD-100 again was the result of a research project to qualify and quantify all the existing products in the marketplace that claimed to “harden” concrete, improve its physical properties, reduce moisture vapor transmission rates and / or provide a glossy finish that did not need sealers or other finish treatments.  We did the research and found many products that claimed to perform one or more functions but none that consistently performed at a high level of functionality.  We were able to discover a way to get 40% higher reactivity than the competitive field of existing products in the market.  MD-100 is positioned in the center of the market cost structure but performs at the top.  MAC-PRODUCTS, INC. has distribution in the United States, throughout the Caribbean, Asia, India and the Middle East.  Products have been used on military air bases in Turkey to bridge decks in Hong Kong..

MAC-PRODUCTS, INC. develops products through a Market Driven Approach.  We identify needs in the market that may not be addressable by our larger competitors.  Through our network of contacts in major raw material supply, we are able to access the latest developing technologies in the construction chemicals industry.  Because we are a smaller player in a large industry, we operate on a “streamlined” product development track and can often bring new technology products to market long before our competition.  This early launch capability provides us usually eighteen months to two years market penetration.

PRIVATE LABEL:

In addition to the MAC brand of products, the company also manufacturers products under private label for some leading manufacturers.  MAC-PRODUCTS, INC. has licensed technology, to international corporations outside the USA.  MAC-PRODUCTS, INC. has developed a “concentrate manufacturing program” in which technology can be exported to other countries including: equipment, process, raw materials and sales and marketing plans.  This “Concentrate” program allows the use of local bulk raw materials such as: cement and sand, thus reducing shipping costs and allowing for better margins by the local associate partner.

MAC-PRODUCTS, INC. - EXPORT

While constantly looking for new technologies, we also recognize that in many parts of the world, long time standard products that include: Stucco Mix, Thin Set Mortar, Cement Roof Coatings, Cement based Waterproofing and repair mortars are in demand.  By adding some new technology to these existing products, such as our PES-40™ flexible polymer, we can impart many desirous properties that make the product very attractive to the markets.  By supplying only the concentrate chemicals and utilizing locally supplied bulk materials (sand / cement) we can provide high performance products at a fraction of the cost of shipping bagged goods from the US market.
